Toviklin

The house we have chosen to renovate, and in which we will live afterwards, is in the town of Toviklin. It is a sub-prefecture of Couffo department, in the South-West of Benin, about 100km North from Cotonou. The population is about 61,000 inhabitants.

The main economic activity of the region of 120km² remains agriculture which provides 66% employment. Principal crops are corn, cotton, niebe, groundnuts, manioc, spice peppers, and tomatoes.

The town of Toviklin is classed as one of the areas giving most concern about child trafficking - 54% of the families place one of their children with more well-off families (see the article on the “Vidomegon Children”).
